Franky (spelled Frankie in 2006) is a character in Club Penguin, and a member of the Penguin Band alongside G Billy, Stompin' Bob, and Petey K, and the newest member. Originally, he played the acoustic guitar and sometimes the banjo. Since 2011, he instead played the double keyboard and provided vocals to the band's songs. He also plays synthesizers.[2]
Character[]
Design[]
Franky is a yellow penguin. He originally wore no clothes. He is frequently seen with one of his instruments, or microphone since he became the band's vocalist.
In July 2008, right before the Music Jam 2008, Franky and the rest of the Penguin Band received updated designs, all now wearing brown cowboy hats. Franky also started to wear Red Sneakers.
In June 2011, right before the Music Jam 2011, Franky and the band received complete redesigns, all appearing very different than before. Franky no longer wore a cowboy hat and red sneakers. He instead wore a green jacket on top of a red and orange hoodie, and underneath both, a white shirt with a silhouette of a red penguin wearing blue headphones. He also wore blue jeans, and gray & white high-top trainers with purple soles and tongue.
Personality[]
Franky is creative and curious and likes creating new sounds.[3][4] He loves stories[5] and wrote one of his own, Franky's First Show.
Franky is obsessive when it comes to sound, and spends a lot of time mixing as well as adjusting instruments.[6]
During his appearances as a meetable mascot, Franky is very friendly and sociable and enjoys meeting fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures.[7] He is supportive of other penguins playing instruments and likes to play along.[8]
History[]
This section mostly covers Franky specifically. For more detail on the band as a whole, including their musical activities, see Penguin Band#History.
Pre-debut[]
Franky worked in the Pet Shop before becoming a musician.[9] At some point, G Billy asked Franky to join the Penguin Band as their fourth member, to which Franky excitedly agreed to without a second thought. He spent weeks practicing with the others before their eventual return concert[10]; the first time the band performed since the Valentine's Day Celebration.
2006[]
Western Party and lost instruments[]
After Franky joins the Penguin Band, he is set to play with them for the first time during the Western Party for the band's return concert. However, although he planned to play the banjo which he had recently learned, he misplaces it and is unable to find it in time.[11] He goes on to play with his guitar instead. After the party, the whole band's instruments go missing[12] but are eventually found, including Franky's banjo, in an Instrument Hunt.[13]
The band later plays during the Lighthouse Party, but decides to take a break from performances to work on making new music and release them in December.[14]
2007[]
Writing a book[]
Returning from a break to make music, the band announces their return for the upcoming St. Patrick's Day Party 2007. Franky is excited about the island turning green and featuring a parade.[15] After reading Rockhopper and the Stowaway, a novelization of a story Rockhopper wrote and put in a bottle, Franky decides to write a book of his own which is published and placed in the Book Room's library. His book, Franky's First Show, recounts his first time playing in the Penguin Band during the Western Party.[16]
2008[]
In July, prior to the first Music Jam, Franky participates in an interview with the Penguin Band. He is excited to participate and also see other bands, and describes the band's sound as "like peanut butter".[17]
2009[]
In March, the Penguin Band appear as special guests during the Penguin Play Awards 2009. As their stay ends, the band participate in another interview. Franky talks about how he enjoyed the excitement of the awards, but is sure things will get more exciting when Cadence shows up.[18]
2014[]
For the new year, Franky resolves to connect and rock out with fans.[19]
At The Fair 2014 in February, the Penguin Band returns after a long absence to perform. They also meet with Aunt Arctic for an interview. Franky talks about how he does not want the band's music to get stale, and has been mixing and remastering their old songs (according to Petey K, this includes "thirty versions of Cool In The Cold").[20]
2016[]
Early in the year, the Penguin Band members temporarily go their separate ways in order to experiment with new material, and plan to return later. Franky silently meditates at the Dojo to let his voice rest until their next song.[21]
The band eventually get back together and perform at the Music Jam 2016 in November. During the party, every few days, Cadence asks the player to visit a certain character, including Franky, whom she asks to say hi to at the Music Cruise. On Cadence's day, Franky asks instead, noting she is signing autographs at the Night Club Rooftop.
2017[]
During the Waddle On Party, the final party in Club Penguin, Franky appears as a meetable mascot. He is the only member of the band to appear.
Other[]
- Yearbook 2011-2012: In this yearbook, a new "Photo Gallery" section is introduced, with photos of many characters, including Franky. He is labeled "Most likely to invent a new instrument." In all future yearbooks, the whole band is listed as one entry.
Video appearances[]
Music videos[]
- Anchors Aweigh: The Penguin Band perform the eponymous song on the Migrator.
- Ghosts Just Wanna Dance: Three penguins exploring the Haunted Mansion walk through the hallway as pictures of the Penguin Band members move their eyes to look at them. The band members, as ghosts, appear out of the pictures and loom closer to the penguins as they run away. They continue to follow as the penguins back into a corner where Cadence, also a ghost, appears from their shadows. She invites the penguins to join her and they transform into ghosts and fly with her to the sky, where many other ghosts are dancing in the night as the band continues to play.
- Best Day Ever: Cadence sings while the Penguin Band plays their instruments on stage.
- Gonna Be Epic: Interspersed between fan art is a few clips of the Penguin Band from Best Day Ever, one of which is modified to have 10th Anniversary Party decorations.
Book appearances[]
Pick Your Path series[]
In the Pick Your Path books, the reader is presented as being a character within each story as the protagonist. As such, "you" is used here to refer to the character representing the reader, as is done in the books.
- Dancing with Cadence: At the beginning of the book, the latest issue of the Club Penguin Times mentions a rumor that the band will be performing in a secret location. In one path, Cadence awards you and your friend with invitations to the band's secret concert. The invitations contain a clue leading somewhere. In a few endings, you end up successfully finding the band performing. In one ending, the band, Franky specifically, encounters you performing at the Cove and invite you to be the openers for their concert.
Miscellaneous books[]
- A Search-and-Find Book: Franky appears with the rest of the band on the "Jam On" page. Finding all of them is included on the checklist at the back of the book.
Club Penguin Magazine[]
- Main article: Franky/Magazine
Franky appears in a few Club Penguin Magazine issues in comics, with the whole band and/or Cadence.
Mascot appearances[]
Franky could first be met as a mascot during the Music Jam 2008. Since then he typically appeared at music-themed parties. Clicking on the box button on his Player Card allowed the player to receive an autographed background. On July 27, 2010, the first stamps were introduced, including the Franky stamp (originally named Penguin Band 1), which could be earned by being in the same room as Franky. The first time Franky could be met after his stamp was released was the Music Jam 2011. Franky's stamp could also be earned when viewing Cadence and the Penguin Band's performance at the Epic Show during the Make Your Mark: Ultimate Jam.
On October 28, 2011, an update for the Friends List was released, allowing mascots to be added from their Player Card. Mascots always instantly accepted a friend request, and when they were on the player's Friends List, their current giveaway could be obtained at any time. The first time Franky could be met after the Friends List update was the Make Your Mark: Ultimate Jam. Mascots could not be sent a request by searching their name like normal players, and instead an icon and message appeared instead. For Franky, this message was "Franky is sampling new sounds. To add him as a friend, you must meet him on the island."
For the preset messages Franky could use while appearing as a mascot, see Franky/Mascot scripts. For a list of blog posts featuring scheduled meetup times, see Mascot meetups#Penguin Band.

- In the EPF Handbook, a page detailed a classified agent labeled as a "new recruit" is included. The page details the recruit with many similarities to Franky, from multiple mentions of sound and music to having a public persona. However, this was never brought up outside the handbook.
- While it was indeed meant to be Franky, Club Penguin writers did not follow up on this because they did not receive much feedback from players, and never fit into any other plotlines.[22]
