— G Billy, Club Penguin Times issue 436
|
G Billy (spelled G-Billy and sometimes Billy-G in 2006 & 2007) is a character in Club Penguin, and the founding member[1][2] of the Penguin Band, alongside other members Stompin' Bob, Petey K, and Franky. He plays the drums and sometimes the flute. He can also play the harmonica.[3]
Character[]
Design[]
G Billy is a blue penguin; he was "Old Blue" in Penguin Chat 2. He originally wore no clothes. He is often seen with his drum set, or at least holding his silver-colored drumsticks. He was not named until issue 39 of The Penguin Times.
In July 2008, right before the Music Jam 2008, G Billy and the rest of the Penguin Band received updated designs, all now wearing brown cowboy hats. G Billy, unlike the other members, did not receive any additional clothing.
In June 2011, right before the Music Jam 2011, G Billy and the band received complete redesigns, all appearing very different than before. G Billy no longer wore a cowboy hat. He instead wore a short, brown, messy wig with a red paisley design bandana tied around it; this was his "lucky" bandana and he never took it off.[4] He now wore a silver plaid shirt with dark gray accents and two pockets on the front and rolled-up sleeves, as well as a brown belt with a gold oval buckle, and black jeans. He also started to wear brown cowboy boots. His drum sticks were no longer silver, and instead appeared wooden.
Personality[]
G Billy is focused, and the strong, silent type.[2] He is loyal and dedicated to his fans.[4] He is calm and is the mediator to the band's rare arguments.[5] He is described as the "beating heart" of the band and keeps the rest of the band together, both literally[6] and rhythmically.[3]
Although G Billy spoke the most on behalf of the band in their earlier newspaper appearances, in later years he hardly speaks at all outside of appearing as a meetable mascot, and has very few lines in Club Penguin Magazine comics compared to other band members; Stompin' Bob describes him as "chill and a little tame".[7]
During his appearances as a meetable mascot, G Billy aims to please the band's fans, signing as many autographs as possible even if his flippers ache and enjoys making music with them.
History[]
This section mostly covers G Billy specifically. For more detail on the band as a whole, including their musical activities, see Penguin Band#History.
Pre-debut[]
G Billy worked as a chef at the Pizza Parlor before becoming a musician.[8] (This is contradictory, as the Pizza Parlor opened in February 2006, and the Penguin Band already made multiple appearances prior.) At some point, G Billy was playing a tune on a coffee cup in the Coffee Shop and met Stompin' Bob. The two talked about music, and after G Billy said he wanted to be in a band, the two formed the Penguin Band.[9]
2006[]
Western Party and lost instruments[]
Following the announcement of a Western Party in July, G Billy reveals the Penguin Band will making a surprise return at the party with new member Franky, as they had "always talked about doing some country-western stuff."[10] After the party, the whole band's instruments go missing[11] but are eventually found, including G Billy's drums and cymbals, in an Instrument Hunt.[12]
The band later plays during the Lighthouse Party, but decides to take a break from performances to work on making new music, and releases them in December.[13]
2007[]
Returning from a break to make music, the band announces their return for the upcoming St. Patrick's Day Party 2007. G Billy decides to play his flute, instead of drums, in honor of the party, and is interested in the chance to try new sounds.[14]
At the beginning of June, sailors invite the Penguin Band to play during the upcoming Summer Kickoff Party, and G Billy encourages other penguins to perform alongside them.[15]
2008[]
In July, prior to the first Music Jam, G Bily participates in an interview with the Penguin Band. He talks about how he is looking forward to hanging out with members of other bands. He reflects on the band's growth from just playing the Pizza Parlor, to filling an entire stadium.[16]
2009[]
In March, the Penguin Band appear as special guests during the Penguin Play Awards 2009. As their stay ends, the band participate in another interview. G Billy mentions how he enjoyed seeing many fans, and the band signed so many autographs their "flippers ached".[17]
2014[]
At The Fair 2014 in February, the Penguin Band returns after a long absence to perform. They also meet with Aunt Arctic for an interview. G Billy talks about the band likes doing things that are interesting, and have been working on new music.[18] helps out with SoundStudio's development by providing drum samples.[19]
2016[]
Early in the year, the Penguin Band members temporarily go their separate ways in order to experiment with new material, and plan to return later. G Billy explores the wilderness to find new sounds, trying out drumming on different surfaces, including seashells and an icy creek.[20]
The band eventually get back together and perform at the Music Jam 2016 in November. During the party, every few days, Cadence asks the player to visit a certain character, including G Billy, who is practicing his drum solo at the Beach.

Mascot appearances[]
G Billy could first be met as a mascot during the Music Jam 2008. Since then he typically appeared at music-themed parties. Clicking on the box button on his Player Card allowed the player to receive an autographed background. On July 27, 2010, the first stamps were introduced, including the G Billy stamp (originally named Penguin Band 2), which could be earned by being in the same room as G Billy. The first time G Billy could be met after his stamp was released was the Music Jam 2011. G Billy's stamp could also be earned when viewing Cadence and the Penguin Band's performance at the Epic Show during the Make Your Mark: Ultimate Jam.
On October 28, 2011, an update for the Friends List was released, allowing mascots to be added from their Player Card. Mascots always instantly accepted a friend request, and when they were on the player's Friends List, their current giveaway could be obtained at any time. The first time G Billy could be met after the Friends List update was the Make Your Mark: Ultimate Jam. Mascots could not be sent a request by searching their name like normal players, and instead an icon and message appeared instead. For G Billy, this message was "G Billy is practicing his drum solo. To add him as a friend, you must meet him on the island."
For the preset messages G Billy could use while appearing as a mascot, see G Billy/Mascot scripts. For a list of blog posts featuring scheduled meetup times, see Mascot meetups#Penguin Band.
