The Lighthouse Donation (also known as the Save the Lighthouse Fundraiser) was an event in September 2006, where the Lighthouse and the Beacon were being restored. Penguins could donate up to 750 coins via the newspaper for the construction. In return for their donation, a penguin would receive a Lighthouse Shirt. This was compared to Coins for Change.
The donations given for the Lighthouse Donation would count to either one of the two different possible redesigns of the Lighthouse as part of the Lighthouse Restoration Project, and eventually redesign two was decided as the winner.
Possible Redesigns[]
The first option was a simpler, cheaper approach to the lighthouse restoration. By not properly restoring and reinforcing the Beacon, the construction crew would be able to finish the lighthouse much more quickly. The downside to this would be that the Beacon would not be open to the general public.
The second option would be more cost-effective and would take longer. This was mainly because the Beacon would also be open the general public, resulting in it needing extra reinforcing and restoring, too. In the end, this option was chosen over the first option.
