Maroon was a candidate color for the 2009 Color Vote. It was last place in color vote, losing to Aqua and also heavily behind Lavender in votes.
Despite being a color vote candidate, it was never a bait item. Maroon was criticized for looking too much like Red, but the same could be said for Aqua looking like Light Blue.
