— Old Penguin Style motto

Penguin Style was Club Penguin's most prominent clothing catalog, located in the Clothes Shop. It was updated monthly, usually during the first week of each month. This catalog and Better Igloos were the first two catalogs in Club Penguin.

Players with membership could buy everything in the catalog, while non-members could only buy limited items like colors, flags, and backgrounds, though from January 2013 onwards there was one page which included clothing items that all players could buy. Secret items, which could only be revealed by clicking certain spots on a page, were hidden throughout the catalog until June 2015.

Each edition featured a selection of new clothing items at the front of the catalog, alongside existing ones. Originally, each edition containing little theming, and items were placed on the pages somewhat randomly, and could be moved around to a completely different part of the catalog between editions. Around the beginning of 2008, new items were more often centered around one theme, often relating to a party occurring later in the month. They were also grouped together, and when new items were released, older ones would gradually cycle back until leaving the catalog. At first, one edition of the catalog could contain up to four or five months' worth of items, but in 2013, the catalog was changed to only include items from the current and previous month.

Sections[]

Clearance[]

First appearing in November 2005, items toward the back of the catalog were marked as clearance, and would not return in the following month's catalog. Originally there was no consistency on what would become clearance, due to items in the catalogs not having much organization on the pages and being placed somewhat randomly, and moving around each month. Around the beginning of 2008, items started being grouped together by release, so items would cycle farther back in the catalog until eventually reaching clearance, usually around 3-5 months later.

Around the beginning of 2013, the catalog was restructured to only include the current month's new arrivals, and the previous month's. Around this time, clearance was usually referred to as "last chance!" or "last month's items" instead.

Penguins at Work[]

Main article: Penguins at Work

Penguins at Work was a section that first appeared in January 2008, and was originally named "On the Job" until April 2008. It featured items for a certain "job" that usually related to events occurring at the time, almost all of which could be used to perform a special dance. Which items appeared in this section changed each month, although some reappeared several times.

Custom items[]

In January 2010, custom items were introduced, with the release of Custom T-shirts. One color and one design out of several could be chosen for a T-shirt, and the selected combination could be bought, with many possible combinations. The available colors and designs changed every several months. In January 2012, T-shirts were replaced with Custom Hoodies. Hoodie colors and designs only updated once. This feature was removed in July 2015. A few other one-off instances of custom items also appeared in the catalog, including Muppet Masks and Custom Soccer Jerseys.

Items for everyone[]

Main article: Clothing items for everyone

In January 2013, an "items for everyone" section was introduced, which included items that could be bought without membership. In August 2015, the items on this page were replaced for the only time. Also in August 2015, a second set of items that could be bought without membership was included in the essential items section, detailed below.

Essential items[]

In August 2015, due to the Fashion Festival, the "biggest catalog ever" was released, featuring an essential items section, which included many pages of hundreds of returning items, almost all of which were first released before 2013. These items were grouped together by type, such as head items, face items, etc. This section remained in all following catalogs.

Editions[]

Full listings of the catalog items, including where secret items are hidden, can be viewed on these pages, as well as images of the catalog pages. Due to the large amount of images, pages may take time to load on lower-end or mobile devices.

Trivia[]

  • The catalog was also used in the Sport Shop until its renovation in August 2007. It was then replaced with the Snow and Sports catalog.
  • Until July 2015, the Viking Helmet and Blue Viking Helmet were always available in the catalog.
  • In November 2012, during Operation: Blackout, this catalog was renamed to Herbert Style by Herbert. Also, during Operation: Blackout, pictures of Herbert's face were on almost all the penguin's faces.
  • Until February 2007, the catalog icon for the Penguin Style catalog shared the same icon as the Better Igloos catalog.
  • On the back of each catalog there were boxes that said "How do I get coins?" and "Are there other clothes?" and then provided information answering those questions. These were removed from the back of the catalog in July 2011.
  • As of the September 5, 2013 issue, all of the members only clothing price buttons have a red and gold membership badge on the left.
  • The March 2013 edition of the Penguin Style catalog was the first issue to contain free items.
  • All items bought from the December 2014 Penguin Style during the Merry Walrus Party went towards Coins for Change donations. This occured again in December 2015 and 2016.
  • The catalog's format changed from SWF to PNG starting with the July 2015 catalog, and all the purchase triggers were replaced with rectangular areas of the page.
    • Because of this, hidden items were no longer found in the catalog.
  • Since the 2015 update, if the player clicked an area in a page where two or more triggers overlap, the last trigger to be listed in the catalog's source will be the dominant one.

Fixed Glitches[]

  • The Nov '09 catalog turned into the Sep '09 catalog for a short time but the items could not be purchased.
  • The front cover of the Jan '10 catalog was incorrectly labeled as Jan '09 for a short time.
  • The Jun. '11 catalog was not working properly. Whenever a penguin bought an item from the catalog when it first came out, the penguin got banned.
  • The Jan. '12 catalog was not working properly. When a penguin tried to buy an item from it, it said that the item wasn't available.
  • The Aug '14 catalog was accidentally released 1 week early on the Club Penguin App, but players could not buy anything. It was shortly removed after.
