Sam the Sasquatch is a penguin-like forest creature in Club Penguin that wanders the wilderness and lives with puffles in the Wilds. He was originally just referred to as the sasquatch (or ?????? when appearing as a mascot) but learned his name shortly before the Wilderness Expedition 2016, after finding his home village. This name was decided as part of a poll.

Character

Design

Sam is a large, penguin-like creature covered in what appear to be fur-like feathers. He has a buck tooth protruding from his beak, and light brown, bushy feathers all over his body. The feathers on his back are darker and spread out further; he also has feathers spread out forward from his head. He has black feathers around his face, giving the appearance of giant eyebrows and a collar. His stomach, like a typical penguin, is a large circular white spot, albeit with cream-colored feathers. His webbed feet each have three large distinct toes. He wears a Party Hat, his only article of clothing.

Sam's design

Personality

In his debut as a mascot, the Sasquatch typically only spoke in grunts and spoke in actions (such as "scratches belly" or "grumbles") and avoided penguins. Since his proper debut in 2015, he spoke normally, albeit in simpler sentences; his dialog typically omitted some words such as "are" or "is", like typical "caveman speak". He also generally referred to himself in third person.

Sam spends most of his time in the Wilds eating and talking with his puffle "family"; he has the ability to speak puffle. He likes hide-and-seek.

History

Pre-debut

Sam is from the Sasquatch Village, but at some point left the village, and forgot about it and his name. He grew up in the Wilds with puffles and later received his Party Hat a long time ago from a penguin with a "nice green jacket". However, he also states he slept in ice for a long time and when he woke up, he was wearing the Party Hat.

2014

The Sasquatch, labeled as "??????", first started appearing randomly as a meetable mascot since August 9, 2014. At this time, his speech mostly consisted of grunting and he did not interact with players.

2015

Hungry for cake

In March, when the Ski Lodge is remodeled into the "Puffle Lodge", a party is prepared complete with a big fish cake. Before the party can start, Sasquatch, hungry due to not finding the O'berries his "family" of wild puffles eats to be very filling, spots the cake and breaks through the lodge wall to eat the cake. During the Puffle Party 2015, PH enlists help finding out who is responsible, believing it to be a giant puffle due to the presence of O'berries near the break-in. As the Wilds are scoured, various objects are brought to a table in the Wild Puffle Reserve, but eventually a Fluffy the Fish caught with a fishing rod is able to lure out the Sasquatch. PH, noticing how hungry he is, offers to let Sasquatch keep the fishing rod so he can fish for himself. The Sasquatch explains how he ate the cake due to being hungry and apologizes. Sasquatch keeps the fishing rod, nicknaming it Rodney, and uses it to fish ever since. Afterwards, Sasquatch permanently appears in the Puffle Wild room, usually in the bushes, but has a 1/5 chance of sitting with the puffle creatures at the table. Clicking him does not do anything.

After the Puffle Party ends, Aunt Arctic interviews the Sasquatch. He is unaware of what his own name is but refers to himself as "sasquatch" in third person, and is labeled in the interview as "??????". He talks about he grew up puffles and thinks of them as family to the point he thought himself to be a puffle, but now realizes he is not. He talks about how he got his hat from a penguin a long time ago, and mentions he will help repair the lodge wall he broke. He leaves to eat dinner with his puffle family. Soon after, the Sasquatch digs for treasure at the Dock and uncovers a Cave Maze that penguins explore.

Wilderness Expedition

In April, the puffles in the Wilds are excited by something deep in the Wilds, and the Sasquatch is interested as well, heading out to investigate. The Sasquatch navigates the Wilds with help from puffles and discovers a Sasquatch Village, and is so excited he nearly loses his hat. He writes a note to send to PH, requesting she and other penguins should make the same trek he did and visit the village. He gives this note to a blue raccoon puffle to deliver to PH.

During the Wilderness Expedition 2016, after navigating a maze of trees, the Sasquatch Village can be found. When entering, the Sasquatch declares he realized this area not only is his home, but also that he has a name: Sam. He asks the player to search for various objects in the wilderness to engage in sasquatch culture, such as creating a fishing rod and guitar. After finding everything, Sam declares the player an honorary sasquatch. After the expedition ends, Aunt Arctic interviews Sam again. He talks about how thrilled he is to have found his home, name, and learn about sasquatch culture.

Mascot appearances

Sam could be met as a mascot since August 9, 2014. Clicking on the box button on his Player Card allowed the player to receive an autographed background.

Sam could be added to player's Friends List from his Player Card. He and other mascots instantly accepted a friend request, and when he was on a player's Friend List, his giveaway could be obtained at any time. He and other mascots could not be sent a request by searching their name like normal players, and instead an icon and message appeared instead. For Sam, this message was "Sam is offline. To add him as a friend, you must meet him on the island." This message did not appear until after he received the name Sam.

Trivia

• The sasquatch "won" Penguin of the Week on November 20, 2014, due to "minor technical problems".
• Sam hosted "Ask Sam", replacing "Ask Aunt Arctic", in issue 552 of the Club Penguin Times.
  • Hovering the mouse over his portrait in the column caused him to hold a Fluffy fish.
• Sam is the only meetable mascot character, including guests, to not have a signature.

Relationships

PH

The Sasquatch first met the Puffle Handler during the Puffle Party 2015, where she set out to solve the mystery of what kind of puffle ate the cake. As it was discovered that the "puffle" was actually the Sasquatch, he apologized and explained that he was hungry. PH let him having a fishing rod so he could get fish to eat, which he nicknamed Rodney.

A year later, the Sasquatch journeys into the wilderness and discovers the Sasquatch Village, his home. He sends a note to a puffle to deliver to PH, addressing her as "PH friend", requesting her and other penguins come visit, prompting the Wilderness Expedition 2016.

Aunt Arctic

After the Puffle Party 2015 ended, Aunt Arctic interviewed the Sasquatch. He refers to her as "glasses lady" and states he thinks she is nice. Even after Aunt Arctic tells him her name, he refers to her as "Aunt Glasses". She interviews him again after the Wilderness Expedition 2016 ended, where he learned his name is Sam.
