Update: The newspaper SWF was found on October 12, 2019 and is available here

Hey, everyone.

In an effort to preserve some missing content from Club Penguin before its franchise ended this month, I asked @joedermo in a direct message on Twitter if he could share some newspaper SWFs that were not archived on the Club Penguin Archives wiki. Joe responded last month with the following message:

Hey there. Unfortunately I don't have access to SWF files and I wouldn't be able to send them out. I might be able to find the written content of the newspaper but that's about it.

— @joedermo

Although he wasn't able to share any SWF files, he was able to find the written content of Issue #59 of The Penguin Times. In this blog post, I will share that written content with the community. (Note: I added some images to make it slightly more interesting, but they probably weren't the images that appeared in Issue #59).

Previously, we only knew what the cover looked like. Now, since we have some of the official text, enjoy this wikified version of the newspaper issue.

Happy New Year's Eve!

Rockhopper's Ship Spotted[]

Migrator near

Landlubbers find your sea legs! Rockhopper’s ship has been spotted in the telescope. Late yesterday a young penguin was drumming up the courage to take his first flight on the Jet Pack Adventure when he decided to take a quick look in the Beacon’s telescope.

“I was too nervous to jump right off the platform when I first climbed the stairs to the Beacon, so I waddled over to my favorite spot---near the telescope. I was trying to calm the rattling rollercoaster of nerves in my stomach by scanning our horizon. And that’s when I spotted the ship,” he said.

In his great surprise he forgot all about the flight. But the rollercoaster picked up speed in his stomach and he let out a loud “YIPPEEE!” Other penguins jumped on the train of excitement as he could not contain himself and told everyone he bumped into.

“I was so surprised that I was the first one to see the ship I ran all over town telling everyone the exciting news,” he said. The ship is still quite a way off but Lighthouse workers expect Rockhopper should arrive sometime next week.

This will be Rockhopper’s second return to Club Penguin. He has planned to visit for longer this time around, so we will all have more time to get to know the bearded penguin a bit more.

Keep your eyes on the horizon and let everyone know our island pirate is close to home!

Christmas Decorating Contest[]

Furniture Sprites 130 012

‘Tis the season to be jolly as Christmas jingle-jangles its way to Club Penguin. Soon our snow-covered island will be covered with Christmas cheer; we’re starting now to make sure not an inch is missed.

The first round of Christmas magic rolls out next week with your chance to cover more than one inch of our island in good cheer in the Best Christmas Ever igloo-decorating contest. Play your favorite games and start saving coins to make your igloo the merriest Christmas igloo in town. The contest starts Dec. 15. To enter the contest, simply decorate your igloo. Judges will be viewing igloos between Dec. 15 and 19.

The new furniture catalog arrives Dec. 15 and will be packed full of seasonal décor items perfect for any igloo style. The real magic arrives with the Christmas Special igloo design. Planned for release on Dec. 15, this igloo will shake up your home and add a whole new look to your igloo.

“We are very excited about this new igloo design. It has been created with the Christmas season especially in mind. Everyone who gets it is in for a real treat,” said an igloo coordinator.

Mark the dates and start saving now. Watch for more details as the contest draws closer.

Go Green![]

Lime Green Color

Go green tomorrow when the whole town jumps into new skin with the public release of lime green in the clothing catalog color pallet.

Start a green parade and throw a wild lime green party in your favorite room, but no matter what---dive into lime and join the fun. Lime green was chosen over its alternative, lavender, as the favorite new penguin color in a poll two weeks ago. Penguins all over town voted over one week for the color they thought would be best for everyone.

Color coordinators organized the color’s official release with the clothing catalog so everyone could enjoy the new flavor for our flippers.

Buy it for 20 coins on the first page of the catalog. The clothing catalog is in the Gift Shop, located in the Town Center.

Featured Game: Ice Hockey[]

Ice Hockey postcard 1

Hit the ice and pass the puck at the Ice Rink in a fast-paced, puck-chasing game of Ice Hockey, Club Penguin style. Strap on your skates or slide along the ice with your flippers, as you head for the end zone and look for the winning goal.

You can join the game whenever you arrive at the ice. If you’ve got some friends who want to play, try organizing a team of your own and head over to the rink to challenge another team to a game. Your team can have as many or as few teammates as you want; fun is the most important thing when playing this game.

Whether playing with friends or strangers, encourage your teammates and congratulate your opponents. To pass the puck, slide over to it and then click the area of the ice where you want to pass the puck. Whoever is first to the puck will successfully pass it.

Ice Hockey is a fast moving game, if you need to rest take a break on the bleachers. You can still have oodles of fun from the sidelines by cheering for your team. If you were around for the Sports Party, put on your face paint and wave your team sign. No matter what, make a ruckus of fun on and off the ice.

Ask Aunt Arctic[]

Dear Aunt Arctic,
Say you get tired of an item in your igloo or a clothing item, is there a way you can sell it?
- TiredofmyStuff

Be resourceful, be remarkable, and archive stuff so that people don't have to do this over a decade later, thanks. AskAuntArcticOldestIconScrolledOver

Dear TiredofmyStuff,
Sounds like you’ve been thinking about making some money off of old items. While there are plenty of ways to earn coins around town, selling items you own and no longer want is not one of them. You cannot sell items to other penguins, whether you are just tired of them or you hope to turn a profit.

If you’re tired of certain items there is an easy solution. In one word: redecorate! Replace old items currently in your igloo with new ones and put the items you don’t want to use anymore in storage.

Your furniture inventory, otherwise known as storage, is big enough to hold all the furniture you own. So you don’t have to worry about running out of storage space.

Your clothing inventory works the same way. While you can’t sell any items, you can tuck them away in your inventory and just use the clothes, hats, shoes and accessories you like.

The great thing is though I may be tired of an item today, it usually happens that I start liking that item again a little later. And when that happens I’m glad I couldn’t get rid of it when I wanted to.

My advice? You’ve got plenty of storage space-- don’t be afraid to use it.
