- They no longer make non-member items.
- They made some of the free unlockable codes (i don't know how many, but possibly a lot) expire, so non-members couldn't get them.

ANOTHER REASON: I can no longer use the free 7 day membership codes. I have been able to use them thrice when they have been sent to some of my penguins, but on the fourth time, some stupid system didn't allow me to.
